“My four years at Shenandoah University was a very special time in my life,” said Paul Battista ’83. “I grew as a person and gained the skills I needed to go out and change the world for the better.”
With Shenandoah being such a big part of shaping Battista into the person he is today, he is excited to help students and alumni become the best version of themselves through his work as a member on the Alumni Board of Directors.
Battista met his wife, Michelle, at Shenandoah in 1983. They have five wonderful children and two grandchildren (with another on the way). He states “Our kids and their families are our best friends. We spend a lot of time together”. They are committed to giving back to Shenandoah and have started a scholarship to help students who are studying guitar at the university. Their goal is to help build the guitar program at Shenandoah to world-class status.
Battista graduated from Shenandoah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Arts Management. He is also a Harvard Business School (HBS) OPM-54 Alumni, saying “attending HBS was truly life changing.” He is now the CEO of Brothers National, an asphalt and concrete company that has more than 1,000 employees with 12 offices in 8 states. The short term plan is to continue building a nationwide presence, with the headquarters based in Warrenton, Virginia. He is also the founder of PavementSoft, a world class software platform for the paving and concrete industry. Throughout his career, he has been involved in high end custom home building, commercial construction, land development, software development, software start-ups, food court shops and much more.
Battista says the most rewarding part of his career is, “empowering people to accomplish much more than they ever thought possible.” Outside of his businesses, he holds leadership positions in his church, served on community boards, and is a past president for the Lions Club. He loves spending time with family, golf, music, fly fishing and travel.
Through his experience as a business owner, Battista brings a great perspective to the Alumni Board of Directors on motivation and achieving goals. He has the opportunity to build successful teams through metrics, accountability, empowerment strategy and key performance indicators.
